Nick Matthew Seeded to Meet Ramy Ashour In 2013 Allam British Open Final

The men’s draw for the most prestigious squash tournament in the world sees last year’s finalists seeded to meet once again in the final at the KC Stadium, Hull.

However, Egyptian Ramy Ashour is the man of the moment, the current world number one and world champion has won the last five PSA World Series events since being defeated in the 2012 British Open final by Matthew.

James Willstrop will also be relishing the opportunity to play in his home county, with the 29-year-old having come so close to winning the tournament in 2005, 2008 and 2009. Previous British Open winner, Frenchman Gregory Gaultier is the fourth seed and the thirty year-old will be looking to reclaim the title that he won in 2007.

All of the world’s top 23 male players will be present in Hull to compete during the 20-26 May to compete on the spectacular all-glass court at the KC Stadium between 20-26 May 2013.

This year’s event also has extra significance as the sport bids to be included in the 2020 Olympic Games with the IOC making their decision later this year.

Earlier this month the WSA (Women’s Squash Association) confirmed that the world’s top thirty female players have also committed to playing in Hull.

Malaysia’s Nicol David is the clear favourite with four previous titles to her name whilst looking to stop her is England’s Laura Massaro, the number two seed recently beat David on her way to victory in the KL Open proving that she also provides a big threat to the world number one.

The Egyptian’s will be looking to go a step further than last year with Raneem El Weleily always a force to be reckoned with and seventeen year-old El Sherbini hoping to go one better after an incredible run which took her to the final in 2012.
